2022 Seat Belt Social Media & Local Heroes Campaigns

No matter what type of vehicle they drive or ride in, one of the safest choices drivers and passengers can make is to wear their seat belt. The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is reminding everyone of the importance of buckling up—every trip, every time! DMV's Highway Safety Office will launch a seat belt safety social media campaign that will run August 14 - 31, 2022 and a Local Heroes Campaign that will run August 1 - 31, 2022.  These campaigns provide sustained messaging to keep the "Buckle Up" message in the minds of the motoring public.

During the social media campaign, Virginia will be utilizing digital banners for the seat belt messaging and Local Heroes.  We encourage our partners to help us get these important messages out by sharing the following social media assets.

The ultimate goal of the 2022 Local Heroes campaign is to increase seat belt usage in the identified low-usage rate areas of Virginia: Frederick, Shenandoah, Augusta, Rockingham, Rockbridge and surrounding counties. The video campaign features local heroes, including local police, fire, EMS and nurses, against a backdrop of recognizable landmarks as they teach viewers the life-saving importance of wearing a seat belt.

Remember that seat belts are:

  • The single most effective traffic safety device for preventing death during a crash.

  • The best defense against impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers.

Thank you for your efforts to reduce unrestrained occupant's fatalities and injuries and make our roads safer for all that travel in Virginia.
